Energy efficiency in the news: Penn College’s Clean Energy Center to open Pittsburgh facility in early 2025

Pennsylvania College of Technology announced it will co-develop a state-of-the-art workforce training and career exploration center for energy efficiency. This facility will offer hands-on training in weatherization, building performance and healthy homes.

As energy efficiency continues to be a focus in Pennsylvania for new construction, renovations and commercial properties, this facility presents great opportunities for employees to expand their knowledge. Continue learning how the environment is changing and how you can help your customers with their energy efficiency needs.

Start talking to customers about 2025

As businesses begin to draft capital budgets for the new year, now is a great time to reach out to customers potentially interested in energy-efficient projects. Discussing potential projects early allows businesses to budget for projects in the new year and makes it easier for them to move forward.

Introduce your customers to these additional savings

Direct Discount Program: As of July 1, 2024, incentives on interior lighting and energy-efficient equipment rose from $0.10/kWh to $0.15/kWh. In addition to the incentive increase, bulbs and tubes now qualify for an incentive through the Direct Discount Program.

Instant Discounts for Lighting Program: Pre-approval is required only for interior projects receiving an incentive of over $20,000 — an increase from the previous $3,000 requirement. There is no pre-approval requirement for exterior lighting projects.

Custom projects: Custom projects, including solar and CHP, will now receive an incentive of $0.08/kWh — an increase from $0.06/kWh for customers and $0.03/kWh for solar and CHP.

Solar project M&V update: Solar projects under 2 million kWh annual savings will no longer require three months of production data for measurement and verification (M&V). These projects will now be calculated and claim savings using PV Watt, and include a predetermined loss factor. This is due to recent updates to the savings methodology released by the Statewide Evaluator. Any project over the 2 million kWh savings threshold will still require production data to be evaluated.
